Homecoming by Pastor Melinda
August is an exciting month at Imago! We will celebrate Homecoming this Sunday, the 11th, with great singing, hopefully some good preaching and a wonderful potluck lunch. For those who have been out and about during the summer, it’s a good way to kick off the school year and refocus a little attention on our community.
We began our traditional Homecoming service in 2022 as a way of bringing people back into the building after COVID had separated us from being in a physical space together. It was our way of saying, “Thank you for staying connected online, but it’s time to come in person!” We asked people to dress up as they would have dressed for their high school Homecoming Dance - and it was so much fun that we decided to keep doing it!
Last year, we asked people to dress up like their favorite High School movie, and this year, we are asking folks (if you want to) to dress up in their favorite team’s colors. It could be from your high school, favorite college football or basketball team, favorite baseball team, and so on. And I will be really disappointed if no one shows up with a cheesehead:)
I don’t have to tell you that life can be hard, scary, and overwhelming. But this is one day out of the year at Imago where we can laugh, spend time with new people, pick up conversations with people we haven’t spoken to in a while, and eat good food.
I really and truly hope to see you there.
Love you,
Pastor Melinda
