Like many parts of Imago, we want our small groups to develop in ways that feel authentic to the people who are involved in them. We deeply value forming spiritual friendships, being known, and having people in our lives that are easy to talk to about real life.
Many of our current groups meet weekly or bi-weekly in homes and discuss family, work, faith, stories, doubts, and questions.
Are you wanting to get to know other people from around Imago, but aren’t sure how? We try to provide opportunities throughout the year to help spark new connections and deepen friendships. One of those opportunities is called Suppers for Six. People from Imago gather in various homes across the city to enjoy a meal and casual conversation. It’s a chance to share your story, hear the stories of others, and experience a bit of hospitality. Let us know below by using the form below if you’d like to be a part, and we’ll get you connected to a host who will contact you with details.
Hot Mess Sisters is a group of women who recognize that what unites us are often the messy parts we most want to hide; and yet we carry great beauty among us. We love a great potluck, and are equally happy with just a bag of chips. We are between our 20's and our 70's. We are single, married, divorced and widowed. We don't have kids, are in the trenches with young kids, watching our teenagers grow up way too fast, and have grandkids. We love all the gluten and are gluten free. We laugh and cry and hold each other up in a variety of ways. We all love a great conversation, but not all of us love to talk. We aren't a therapy group; we aren't a small group. We are just us. Sometimes we come to HMS even if we haven't read the book at all. For some of us, it's a lifeline. A weekly time to be with our friends, no kids, no significant others, no aging parents, no responsibilities. For others of us, we love to read and talk about what we read. And we read usually just one book a semester, a chapter or two a week. Life is too messy to commit to more. If you are interested in checking out the Hot Mess Sisters, we meet most Thursday evenings at Imago from 6:30-8 during the months of September, October, November, February, March and April. We take a break in December and May, with TBD meets in January, June, July and August.
Periodically, as new people join our community, new small groups form. If you'd like to know more about getting connected to a small group, or if you are interested in helping start one by hosting or leading, please fill out the form below.
Our hope is that you will find natural connections with people around Imago that develop over time into deep community. Whether this happens through a consistent small group, a supper for six, a volunteer team, or a Formation Community, we want you to find your place within our church that feels like home.
Eats, Drinks, and Orthodoxy meets at Peoria Pizza Works on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, from 6-8:00p.m. One of our core directives at Imago Dei is the commitment to generous orthodoxy. We are a community of diverse theology, practice, and approaches to the spiritual journey. To create a space for exploring some of these differences, where they come from, and how we can learn from each other on our common ground, we are relaunching Eats, Drinks, and Orthodoxy. Folks meet for a meal at Pizza Works, a local bar and restaurant, and then launch into a guided discussion that blends historical teaching with conversation about the topic at hand. People are invited to join for the meal, the discussion or both (no purchase necessary to come!).
