Most people treat Numbers like a book to skim through…

Or they skip it entirely.

Census lists. Tribe names. Chapters that read like legal paperwork.

But chapter 2 is doing something the rest of the book spends forty years unpacking.

God arranges an entire nation with His dwelling place at the dead center. 

Every tribe facing in. Nobody facing out.

The formation was set at Sinai.

And then Numbers asks one question the whole way through.

How does a holy God live in the middle of people like us?

Israel got the answer as a diagram.

Not visit Him.

Not check in with Him from time to time.

Center everything around Him.

John 1 tells us that what sat in the middle of that camp pointed to a person.

Israel didn’t have to remember where the center was.

They lived inside the answer.
