Practicing Embodiment by Sarah Dyer
By Sarah Dyer
Last week Sarah Dyer shared with us a little about her journey into embodying spirituality. This week she has developed a beautiful and immersive practice to help us along that same journey.
She’s provided a “choose your own adventure” set up. Try choosing one from each list to do together, or dive into a single sense for an hour or two. Let us know in our Facebook group how it goes!
Daily rhythms in 5D sensory mode:
Sight:
Pay attention to all the details surrounding you while taking a walk or simply sitting and observing. Shading, colors, movement, contrast, patterns.
Lay in the grass and observe the smallest of intricacies of life that hums about.
Pick a color/shape/design of the day- to wear or look for around you. I've gotten into a rhythm of going through the colors of the rainbow with the uniform I wear for my job: Red on Monday, Orange on Tuesday, Yellow on Wednesday, Green on Thursday, Blue/Violet on Friday, mix it up on the weekends ;)
Draw a symbol or have a picture where you look frequently as a reminder of God’s love and presence. I do a "word of the year" and my word for 2026 is MOMENT-OM. I have a necklace that is a visual and tactile reminder of gradual movement, living in the moment and also learning about OM (the sound of the universe). Butterflies are another reminder for me.
Enjoy media/movies that amplify visual input. I highly recommend any of the Avatar movies. I just recently watched "Avatar: Fire and Ash" and they give me a bigger glimpse at creation as a whole, community, life/death/rebirth cycles.
Adequate sleep/napping if eyes are overstimmed. How does it feel to remove sight using an eye cover?
Sound:
Eyes closed, listen for 3-5 minutes in various environments (in your home, at a coffee shop, outside in nature, on a bus, etc).
Create your own playlist of all your favorite songs and play it to remind you of who you are. Songs can be some of the biggest "God-incidences" that I experience. I love when a favorite song will play in the background, car or speaker at just the right time.
Attend a music performance, close your eyes to increase the auditory experience.
Play calming music while working (earbuds can be lifesavers).
Clean out those ears! Q-tip or warm wash cloth and remind self of the saying "There is a reason God gave us 2 ears and 1 mouth, we should listen twice as much as we speak."
Try Ear reflexology/acupressure points to the ear. Gently pull both ear lobes down, out and up for 5-10 seconds each paying attention to the warmth and sensation in the ears and toward the face. Remember each part of the body is a gift.
Plug your ears and notice what changes when you don't have full hearing capacity. This one really gets me as you might hear your heart beat and it brings you much more into your own body away from the external inputs.
Smell:
Try alternating nasal breathing to open the passageways for smell: cover left nostril as you inhale, then cover right nostril as you exhale, keep right nostril closed as you inhale and then close left nostril to exhale. Repeat 8-10 times.
Choose a favorite perfume/cologne and wear it intentionally to bring you back to your center. Use one scent for an important event, meeting, outing or date with yourself (and God).
Bake or cook with the focus of smelling each ingredient as you create your dish. Savor all the smells of your end product.
Light incense or a candle to burn for 3-5 minutes of silence or prayer.
Clean the nose out (tissue, saline wash, mint nasal inhaler) to enjoy all the amazing smells around you.
Taste:
Allow food or liquid to sit on all parts of the tongue before swallowing.
Create a mini “flight” of tastes- sweet, sour, salty, savory, bitter foods and enjoy trying with friends and share your reaction.
Enjoy a popsicle or ice cream cone and lick it sloppily like a kid.
Choose a mint, Tic Tac or Werthers original (my great grandmother’s favorites) just to enjoy the taste and texture on the tongue.
Stimulate the tongue by making circles around the inside of the mouth clockwise and counterclockwise, stick the tongue out as far as you can, make a silly face in the mirror.
Tongue care - brush the tongue in addition to those teeth! Try Tongue scraping. You can get build up on the tongue and learn about your health just by looking at the tongue.
Touch:
Feel all the textures around you - the clothes you pick each day to wear, those soft blankets or squishmallow friends, fur on your pets if you have them, softly explore parts of your own body- running along the skin, bony areas, hair.
How do various temperatures feel - warm shower or bath, cold ice pack in your lunch, a fan lightly cooling you off, sitting out in the sun’s warmth?
With consent, hug a friend, partner or yourself for 20+ seconds to stimulate oxytocin release.
Cup both hands gently on your cheeks, close your eyes and take 3-5 slow breaths in and out to calm the nervous system.
Make skin care a time for self care - washing the face, trying a face mask, applying lotion or sunscreen slowly/gently, lotioning and massaging the hands and/or feet before bed.
Go get a massage or try foot or hand reflexology. Truly "receive" by being present with each area where touch is applied.
Living life in 5D with all our senses brings us a little closer to the truth of the kingdom of God. Have fun with it, friends!
